Blood donations
Blood donations can be vital in emergency situations. For certain cases, we sometimes need to collect fresh blood donations, to allow us to perform life saving transfusions. If you are interested in your pet becoming a donor and they fulfil the criteria below, we would love you to register your pet with us as a donor.
To register your pet for blood donation, you must be a client of our practice and you must be happy to be contacted at any time.
Requirements for dogs
- Must be between one and eight years old.
- Must weigh over 25kg.
- Must be fit and healthy.
- Must be up to date with annual vaccinations.
- Must not have mated.
- Must have never travelled abroad.
- Must have never received a blood transfusion.
- Must be friendly and cooperative.
Requirements for cats
- Must be between one and five years old.
- Must be lean and have a body weight of less than 4kg.
- Must be fit and healthy.
- Must be up to date with annual vaccinations.
- Must not have mated.
- Must have never travelled abroad or been in contact with pets who have travelled.
- Must have never received a blood transfusion.
- Must have been screened for viruses beforehand.
- Must be friendly and cooperative.

Please note that you must be a registered client and that we will contact you to arrange an appointment to weigh your pet and review their blood type. Should your pet be successfully added to our blood donor list, you must be happy to be contacted at any time, day or night.
