Our high frequency x-ray unit enables high quality radiographs to be taken from the very largest of dogs, right through to the smallest of reptiles. This, when combined with our digital radiography system, allows us to take highly detailed radiographs which far surpass conventional film images. Our digital archiving system also provides instant access to a patient’s radiographs from any computer within the practice, allowing the image to be taken in our radiography room and then shown to you in a consulting room within a matter of minutes.
Radiography is still an invaluable tool in Veterinary Practice despite more advanced imaging techniques becoming increasingly available. David Harding hold an RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Radiology and his added knowledge and experience in both producing and interpreting radiographs helps with the more challenging diagnoses. David also offers a radiography reading service to other practices on a referral basis.
This mode of imaging is increasingly used in Veterinary Practice and our high quality Sonoscape Ultrasonography machine facilitates rapid and excellent visibility of internal organs, enhancing the diagnoses of both abdominal and cardiac problems. This procedure can usually be carried out without the need for sedation, allowing rapid diagnosis in patients where use of sedative drugs may be contraindicative. David’s increased experience in ultrasound again provides assistance with challenging cases, and he regularly performs cardiac scans in both dogs and cats, including on a referral basis.
Ultrasonography is also incredibly beneficial in pregnant bitches, allowing an estimation to be given of number of puppies and size. This is usually performed as a routine consultation appointment, ensuring your pet does not need hospitalising for the day causing undue stress.
In House Laboratory
Our In House Laboratory is staffed by our Qualified, Registered Veterinary nurses, and allows rapid diagnosis of a multitude of clinical issues.
IDEXX Laboratory System
Our in-house system from IDEXX Laboratories enables us to perform immediate blood profiles on patients, ensuring rapid diagnosis and prompt treatment. The system allows us to check a wide range of factors, from basic biochemistry and haematology right through to more advanced diagnostics such as coagulation times and specific disease testing, as well as monitoring medication dosing for diseases such as Cushing’s and Hyperthyroidism.
Our high-power microscope system allows us to perform cytological analysis without the need to submit samples to an external laboratory, as well as visual assessment of blood, urine and faecal samples, which are vital in certain conditions where such things are not picked up by machines – For example blood borne parasites and bacterial infections. This again increases the rate of analysis and diagnosis, ensuring prompt treatment of your pet.
Obviously there is a need to send some samples to specialist labs, especially in the case of mass removals and more specialised blood tests, but where possible we aim to perform testing in-house to provide as fast a diagnosis as possible.
Intra-dermal Skin Testing
Do you have an itchy dog or cat? Dog skin conditions and cat skin conditions are very common and frequently have an underlying allergic cause. Cesar Sastre performs intra-dermal skin testing on patients to elucidate the causal allergen and help provide a treatment. We are happy to accept referrals. You can watch a video showing an intradermal skin test below.
