Small Animal Veterinary Surgeons

Cesar Sastre

Cesar graduated from Madrid University in 1995 and worked in Spain for one year. In June 1996 he started working in the Manchester area, then moved to the Wirral and worked in a busy practice for 3 years where he met his wife, Jo.  After a sabbatical in South America he worked in Poole before joining Damory Veterinary Clinic in 2002, becoming a Small Animal partner in 2008.

Cesar’s strength is surgery, mainly orthopaedics; and he holds a European certificate in small animal general surgery. Cesar receives referrals from other practices. He is also keen on dermatology and he currently performs skin intra-dermal tests for several practices.

Although Cesar comes from a big city he enjoys rural Dorset and its coast; he is passionate about the outdoors. He and Jo have a little boy called Santiago as well as two happy cats Braulio and Federico.  Back to top

David Harding

David qualified from Cambridge University in 1997 and began in practice in Upminster, Essex soon afterwards. He decided that he would concentrate solely on small animal practice and soon afterwards began studying towards a Royal College Certificate in Veterinary Radiology. He was awarded the Certificate in 2002 shortly before arriving at the Damory Veterinary Clinic in 2003.

His main professional interests lie in diagnostic imaging and in internal medicine. He receives referrals from other practices, mainly for ultrasound examinations. David became a partner of the practice in 2009 and has also enrolled on a second certificate in small animal internal medicine.

Outside of work he is married with three children and an ageing cat, Jeffrey. In any spare time he gets he enjoys playing hockey and cricket with the ‘Blandford Flies’! Back to top

Lynn Broom

Lynn graduated from Liverpool University in 2000 as a mature student having previously worked in the home insurance industry for nearly 10 years. She worked in mixed practice in Devon, Somerset and Dorset before starting at Damory Veterinary Clinic in September 2005 as a part-time small animal locum. In July 2008 she took up a permanent part-time small animal position and then in January 2009, following the retirement of Mike Nathan, became full time.

Lynn is experienced in all aspects of small animal work and enjoys the variety that the work provides. She also occasionally helps out the Equine and Farm Departments when they are short staffed, drawing on her previous experience of mixed animal practice.  Lynn has a keen interest in exotic animals and has achieved her General Practitioners Certificate in Exotic Animal Practice. She now provides a more specialised service for reptiles, small mammals, birds (particularly chickens) and other less common species.

Lynn is married to Jim, who has three daughters, and they have two dogs, one cat (all ex-patients!) and a horse. Her other main interest is gardening, especially growing her own fruit and vegetables.  Back to top

Ruth Fermor

Ruth graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in July 2007. Having grown up in High Wycombe she decided it was time for a change of scenery for her first job and came to Damory in November 2007. Ruth enjoys all aspects of small animal work but is particularly interested in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and ultrasonography. She is currently studying towards a Certificate in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Out of work Ruth enjoys cooking, running and playing sport, particularly hockey during the winter months. She lives with her partner Dave and they have two cats, Marley and Monty, both brought in to Damory as strays!  Back to top

Jade Douglas

Jade graduated from the University of Glasgow Veterinary School in 2000. She started out in mixed practice on the west coast of Scotland which she really enjoyed-apart from the weather! Her search for a warmer and drier climate brought her to Poole, where she worked in small animal practice before joining Damory Veterinary Clinic in January 2009.

Jade has a particular interest in acupuncture and has been using this alongside more conventional treatment for the last five years. The most common condition she treats is osteo-arthritis but there are many other conditions that can be treated by acupuncture.

Jade accepts referrals from other practices and is happy to discuss individual cases with vets or clients. She also has an interest in herbal treatments and tries to integrate these where appropriate.

Outside of work, Jade lives with her partner and young son, who keeps them very busy! They all love the outdoors and are likely to be found on the beach and out in their kayaks on days off.  Back to top

Throughout vet school she had an interest in all aspects of veterinary work, and having worked solidly with farm animals for two years, she now does a mixture of farm and small animal work. Jen enjoys all aspects of her work, particularly cattle fertility, and even TB testing, which has given her the opportunity to meet many farmers and clients whose animals she has not yet treated.

In her spare time, Jen particularly enjoys walking and exploring the stunning Dorset countryside, which is all new to her having grown up in Scotland. She also likes running and cycling, and takes great pleasure in cooking and experimenting with food.      Back to top
