Andrew Burge

Andrew qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 1982. After working on Exmoor, and then in Gloucestershire, Andrew returned to his native Dorset to join Damory Veterinary Clinic in 1985. He became a partner in 1993 and as the practice developed Andrew became one of the senior members of the Farm team.

Ian Patton

Having qualified from University College Dublin in 1988 Ian has worked in two mixed practices, in Hereford and Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, before joining the team at the Damory Veterinary Clinic in August 1992. In those days it was a truly mixed job but as the Practice became more specialised and developed its three departments Ian became one of the senior members of the farm team. In 1998 he was offered a Partnership within the Practice.

Much of his working day is spent doing routine dairy cattle fertility work but he has a special interest in cattle nutrition and enjoys all aspects of farm animal surgery.

Outside of work Ian endeavours to keep fit by running on a regular basis. He is also involved with coaching sessions at the Blandford junior rugby club and is on the committee of the Bere Regis Splashers swimming club.  Back to top

Alice Wilkinson

Alice joined the practice having qualified from Bristol University in July 2009. Alice has always had a keen interest in farm animal health, production and management and gained invaluable experience working, from a young age, on a Dairy Buffalo farm and a Beef and Sheep unit. During her time spent studying at Bristol she not only confused clinicians, being one of identical twins, but has developed her own interests in cattle lameness, the control and prevention of infectious diseases and fertility work. When not working Alice enjoys running and loves photography and art. Travelling, scuba diving and working with a game capture team has indulged her passion for wildlife and exploration.   Back to top

Matthew Burge

Matthew qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2008. He spent two and a half years working in mixed practice in Devon before coming back to his home-town of Blandford to concentrate on large animal practice with the team at Damory.

Matthew has a special interest in mastitis control and is licensed to deliver the DairyCo Mastitis Plan. He enjoys helping farmers optimise all areas of cattle management, and after doing six years of lambing locally as a teenager also has a soft spot for sheep.

When not working, Matthew enjoys racing sailing dinghies and recently won the World Championships of the Fireball dinghy held in Ireland. He also enjoys running and swimming to keep fit between sailing events.   Back to top

Bella Kirkwood

Bella qualified from Cambridge University in 2010. After spending her first 4 months as a vet working with wild buffalo in South Africa, she decided to come back home and work with their (hopefully) less wild bovine relatives in the UK. She spent 18 months in farm practice in Buckinghamshire before joining the team at Damory in 2012. Bella enjoys all aspects of farm animal work, particularly fertility and infectious disease control.

After spending countless holidays in Dorset over the years, Bella counts herself very lucky to now be able to call it home. Outside work, she loves dog-walking and cycling in the countryside locally, as well as packing up her tent and exploring other parts of the South West when she gets the chance.   Back to top

Julie Roper - Farm Secretary

Julie has worked at the Practice since January 1994.  Her main day-to-day responsibilities are organising the farm diary, entering the vets daily bookings and processing the Interherd and TB data. Outside of work she spends her time looking after her family, walking her dog and helping run a local youth football team.   Back to top
