Lameness investigation

Lameness is a common equine problem and we are experienced in assessing and treating these problems. If necessary further investigation with flexion tests, response to nerve blocks and imaging (x-rays and ultrasound scans) can be performed to diagnose the cause of the problem and facilitate treatment.

Pre-purchase examinations (‘vettings’)

Buying a horse can be a minefield but we are on hand to give you practical advice. A ‘vetting’ is a thorough examination of the horse leading to an opinion as to whether the horse is suitable for you. We would advise some-one purchasing a new horse to have a ‘vetting’ as it may reveal hidden problems. Some insurance companies will also require one before providing cover for veterinary fees.

Fertility services (including artificial insemination)

Hopefully breeding a foal is straightforward and you may just require us to scan your mare to confirm she is pregnant. If she has problems conceiving then there are investigations and treatments that we can perform to improve her chances of producing a foal. We are experienced in the process of artificial insemination with both frozen and chilled semen.

Dentistry

Equine dentistry has advanced greatly in the last ten years. We are committed to providing a comprehensive first class dental service and use both manual floats and motorised equipment where appropriate. We have received specialist dental training and as veterinary surgeons we are the only dental professionals who can sedate difficult patients.

Equine Clinic

Our Equine Clinic is located at Newton Farm in Sturminster Marshall and has facilities for surgery and diagnostic investigations. Also if you bring your horse to us and we examine your horse at the clinic you will not be charged a journey/call-out fee. Click here to view the Equine Clinic page.

Preventative health care

The secret to having a healthy horse is in preventing problems. We actively promote this through a combination of vaccination, worming, dentistry and health checks: See HEALTHCARE section. We also operate an Equine Health Plan which co-ordinates the main elements of a good health care programme- Please ask us for more details.
